Granite School District is the second largest school district in Utah and is among the largest school districts in the nation. Granite’s 68,310 students attend 61 elementary schools, 16 junior high schools, 8 high schools, as well as other special schools and programs. Granite is also one of Utah’s largest employers, with more than 7,500 full and part-time employees. The district boundary encompasses 257 square miles.
Granite District is well known statewide for its excellence in providing opportunities for gifted and talented students. A variety of gifted and talented options, including Elementary Advanced Learning Centers are expressly designed for students who need a curriculum beyond what can reasonably be provided in their local school gifted program. Each school in the district must offer a continuum of services that include talent development, differentiation for gifted and talented within the regular classroom, Specialized academic grouping and a specialized academic school program. Schools use a collaborative approach when developing a continuum of services for gifted and talented students.
